Vista del Mar at Grande Dunes
Vista del Mar is the pinnacle of oceanfront living in the entire Myrtle Beach area. It is a gated oceanfront community inside Grande Dunes, the 2,200-acre master planned resort community, and it gives owners panoramic views of one of the most pristine sections of beach along the entire Grand Strand. The Grande Dunes Ocean Club sits directly to the south, adjacent to the buildings.
It is two buildings that share a gate — Portofino to the north, nine floors, and Barcelona to the south, eleven — and beyond that gate each building requires its own passcode entry. Both were built in 2004.
Oceanfront
Panoramic views, a boardwalk over the dune, and the Ocean Club next door.
Portofino and Barcelona
Nine floors north, eleven south. One shared gate, separate passcodes.
Coded Elevator
It opens into your own private foyer.
Two Assigned Spaces
Every residence has two parking spots of its own.
Club Memberships
The Ocean Club is included with ownership; golf and tennis memberships are offered in addition.
Three Doors Before Your Own
Security here works in three layers rather than one. The gate is shared by both buildings. Each building then requires a passcode of its own. And the elevator is coded to your residence — it opens directly into your personal foyer, the same way it does at Villa Firenze.
There is no shared corridor at the end of the ride and no neighboring door beside yours. You do not pass through a public hallway to get home.
For a residence that sits empty part of the year — which describes a great many oceanfront properties in Myrtle Beach — that arrangement is worth more than it sounds. It is the difference between a building anyone in the lobby can walk through and one where three separate credentials stand between the street and your front door.

On Site
A large oceanfront pool and jacuzzi sit between the two buildings on the ocean side, with private beach access by way of a boardwalk over the dune to the sand. There is also a fitness room and built-in grills by the pool. These are Vista del Mar’s own, separate from the Grande Dunes amenities below.
Priced With the Houses, Not the Condos
Vista del Mar is the most expensive condominium in the Myrtle Beach area, and it is the most expensive because it is the most luxurious. A five bedroom here runs $2.6 to $2.7 million. No other condominium in Grande Dunes is in that conversation — Villa Firenze tops out around $840,000, and the Marina Inn well below that. Vista del Mar sits in the range of the single-family neighborhoods over the bridge.
Which means the honest comparison for a buyer at this level is not the other condos. It is a house. And the trade is a specific one: you give up the yard and the detached walls, and you get oceanfront, the view, and a building that maintains itself while you are not in it.
The three bedroom residences, at $1.3 to $1.9 million, sit in the same range as a good many of the over-the-bridge homes as well.
Run both sides of that comparison with the fee included, because on an oceanfront building it is a substantial number: $3,333 a month for a three bedroom and $4,108 for a five. Ask for the current list of what it covers. An oceanfront building carries costs a house does not — the exterior takes salt air year round, and the pool, the fitness room, the beach access and the grounds are maintained whether you are in residence or not. That is the trade being made, and it is worth seeing in full before you weigh this against a home.
Grande Dunes Amenities
The centerpiece of Grande Dunes is the Ocean Club, an oceanfront clubhouse for members with multiple pools, private cabanas, locker rooms, dining with bar service and full beach services. It is adjacent to Vista del Mar, immediately to the south — near enough to walk to along the beach.
The Members Club offers two 18-hole courses, both ranked among the top 50 in the country — the Resort Course, playable without a membership, and the Members Course, which requires one. Each course has its own clubhouse, with a pub, dining area and locker rooms. The Grande Dunes Marina is one of the best full-service boating facilities on the East coast, with boat slips and maintenance on site, and it is home to 357 Raw Coastal Bar — Myrtle Beach’s only restaurant on the Intracoastal Waterway. The Tennis Club is a 6,000 square foot facility with 10 Har-Tru courts, 8 of them lighted, and a full pro shop.
